ACHIEVING OUR MISSION
NWP-A achieves its mission by providing professional development to educators at all levels, ensuring they can teach writing effectively. Teacher Consultants, who undergo in-depth institutes, share their learning with colleagues and students in their classrooms and districts.
SHARING OUR HISTORY
NWP-A was founded in 1989 with a $45,000 grant and is affiliated with the National Writing Project. Dr. Ann B. Dobie, a Professor of English, was the founder. It focuses on improving writing education from K to University levels through various activities like summer institutes, workshops, and public events.
REACHING OUR GOALS
In April 1999, the National Writing Project of Acadiana held a strategic planning conference led by Dr. Sherry Swain. They focused on enhancing staff development, reaching more teachers through workshops, expanding teacher research projects, and addressing diversity and outreach goals. This led to specific projects serving minority students, evaluating efforts, improving in-service, and involving parents.
